About Opera Sports

Opera Sports is a new initiative by Opera that aims to improve the way we cater for our sports-mad users. In May 2021, we launched our first product - Apex Football - in the Play Store and as a standalone website. Thanks to access to Opera’s browser audience of more than 300m monthly active users, this new product already boasts a user-base of more than 12 million MAUs and its audience and engagement continues to grow quickly, with growth particularly strong in Africa and emerging markets.

As a Product Designer, you will be involved with every aspect of the product development process, from brainstorming new features to reviewing designs post-release. You’ll make use of strong interaction, visual design and prototyping skills, to push boundaries and deliver innovative, high-quality designs.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Leading and delivering design projects from conception to launch across a variety of platforms;
  • Ensuring that the products are fully optimised and meet the expected standard of quality and continuously reviewing the efficacy of design solutions post-release to deliver the best possible experience for our users;
  • Play a critical role in helping set the goals and product direction for the team; working with product managers and engineers to understand user requirements to boost product engagement and retention;
  • Creating original designs to present sports data in innovative, visually-appealing and digestible ways;
  • Assisting in the creation of mock-ups, prototypes and final screens for all sport products across app and web;
  • Managing and maintaining detailed design documentation.

Ideal Candidate’s Profile:

  • Proven history of playing a prominent role in the completion of multiple product design projects from conception to completion;
  • A strong aesthetic sense and extensive visual design experience, with proficiency in typography, colour, layout, iconography and a holistic understanding of how these elements impact the functionality of the product;
  • An exceptional knowledge of a UI/UX design and prototyping tools such as Figma, InVision, Adobe XD or Sketch;
  • Expertise in building and releasing applications across a variety of platforms, making a brand vision tangible through product design;
  • Exceptional verbal, written and visual communication skills and the ability to confidently present work to the wider product team and other senior stakeholders within the organisation.


  • Experience of working in the sports/betting environments is a plus;
  • Experience with and a strong understanding of the principles of motion and animation;
  • A working knowledge of – or commitment to learning about - football, cricket and basketball would be highly desirable;
  • Profound knowledge of CSS and HTML.
